Awards To Be Presented At The
Alliance For Continuing Medical Education®
2010 Annual Conference

Award for Innovation in Continuing Professional Development for the CME Professional and/or Enterprise

This award is not intended to address innovations in CME activities for physicians, but rather activities developed to benefit CME professionals and the profession in general.

This award is in honor of Rafael Sanchez, MD, dedicated physician, educator and CME leader. The award is to recognize and commend those individuals and/or organizations who have produced groundbreaking original work, developed new methods or technologies or applied existing knowledge in a way that improves quality and enhances productivity in the domain of continuing professional development of CME professionals and/or the CME enterprise.

Purpose:
To recognize outstanding innovation in continuing professional development for CME professionals.

Nomination Criteria:

To be considered for this award,
The nomination must have been submitted by a member of the Alliance.
At least one of the primary individuals involved in the planning, development and implementation of the activity must be a member of the Alliance and listed as a nominee.
The innovation must have been initiated between January 1, 2008 and July 1, 2009.
The nomination does not have to represent a certified CME activity but should be related to the CME process.
A completed nomination application must include identification of related ACCME Criteria and Alliance Competency and completed Publication Release Form.
The innovation must not have been nominated for another Alliance award.
The nominee and recipients cannot be a member of the Award Selection Panel for this award.
Only one application per nominee (person or organization) may be submitted per award category.
A completed nomination application must have been received at the Alliance office by the submission deadline.


Evaluative Criteria:

Evaluation of the nominees for this award includes consideration of,
The innovation’s purpose, clarity of goals and objectives, development and implementation.
Outcomes and/or impact/benefit on change in continuing professional development.
Originality in the use of method, technology or application.
Creativity/ingenuity/innovation/uniqueness.
Significance for the field of continuing professional development.
Applicability to others in the field.


Application:
The Award Selection Panel will accept and review nominations received by the deadline of Wednesday, July 1, 2009. A letter of nomination should include the following:

No more than four (4) typed (not handwritten) pages. The total page count does not include the face page.
Pages must be formatted with 1” margins on all sides and no smaller than Arial 11pt type.
The innovation, its purpose/goals/objectives (e.g., to produce groundbreaking original work; develop new methodologies or technologies, etc.).
How the innovation was developed and implemented, along with each department’s/organization’s role and anticipated risks and rewards.
The significance and uniqueness of the creativity/innovation demonstrated.
How the innovation impacted/benefited the field of continuing professional development for the CME professional/enterprise, its success in achieving stated goals/objectives/intended outcomes, or other innovations and/or activities conceived and developed as a result of this endeavor.
Link the submission to Nomination and Evaluative Criteria, and include identification of related ACCME Criteria and Alliance Competency and completed Publication Release Form.
Verification nominees represent the organization referenced on the application (signed attestation on organization’s letterhead).
Do not include additional activity-related supplemental materials. These materials will not be reviewed.
Applications may, however, include up to a two (2) page Appendix detailing impact/outcomes data.
Submission of six (6) copies for receipt at the Alliance by Wednesday, July 1, 2009 (submitted materials will not be returned).
Only one application per nominee (person or organization) will be accepted for review.


Recognition:
One (1) complimentary registration for the 2010 Alliance Annual Meeting; the opportunity to showcase the innovation by exhibiting a poster during the Annual Conference; a “spotlight” article in the Alliance’s Almanac newsletter; and a plaque commemorating the award presented at the 2010 Annual Conference.
