Code of Ethical Conduct in the Continuing Education of Physicians

The Alliance for Continuing Medical Education, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, and the Society of Academic Continuing Medical Education represent individuals and organizations involved in the continuing education of physicians. While each of these organizations has a unique mission, they share a commonality of purpose in providing quality continuing education to physicians. These three associations agree that quality continuing education of physicians requires the highest possible ethical conduct of the individuals involved. They also agree that ethical conduct in continuing education for physicians is promoted when the individuals and organizations involved recognize their responsibilities to the physicians they serve, to other health professionals, to the health of the public, and to themselves. The following statements represent a consensus of the organization about the principles of ethical conduct that should be followed by individuals and organizations as they carry out their day-to-day responsibilities in providing continuing education to physicians.

PRINCIPLES THAT GUIDE US

5) Responsibility and fairness guide our business practices.
6) Accountability, which is the basic tenet of what we do, assures that our educational services are of value to practitioners and to the public and are free of inappropriate influence.
